ONERO is the same protocol taken from the LIFTMOR study, which has repeatedly been shown to safely improve full body strength and bone density in post-menopausal women, while also decreasing falls risk.
Summit is proud to be the first ONERO provider in Maryland. With over 100 welcoming members, a strong community of active adults, 19 weekly classes, a dedicated 2,500 square foot space, recurring information sessions and workshops on Osteoporosis, and 4 experienced ONERO coaches who are all Doctors of Physical Therapy, Summit is the premier Onero provider in Maryland. If you’re considering Onero, we invite you to watch the testimonial videos below to hear directly from our members.

What is Onero?
If you’ve been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis and want to take a proactive role in improving your bone health, strength, and reducing your risk of falls, you’re in the right place. ONERO is grounded in extensive scientific evidence and was developed by Dr. Belinda Beck, lead author of the well-known LIFTMOR trial and founder of The Bone Clinic in Australia. The program uses targeted, research-backed exercises designed to increase bone density, improve bone architecture, and build full-body strength when practiced consistently under expert guidance.
The Process To Getting Started
Most participants begin with two 55-minute one-on-one sessions with one of our licensed Onero coaches. During these sessions, you’ll become familiar with the core exercises, review your medical history related to osteopenia or osteoporosis, and complete baseline strength and balance testing for future comparison. After your initial sessions, you’ll be guided through setting up the Wodify app to register for ONERO classes moving forward. Most clients attend ONERO 2x/week.
Clients with prior experience in barbell movements like squats, deadlifts, and overhead presses may be ready to join ONERO classes after just one session.
Don’t worry if you’re new to strength training, many of our ONERO participants had little to no prior experience when they started.
ONERO classes are limited to 8 participants to ensure personalized coaching and attention.

The Takeaway:
The LIFTMOR trial demonstrated significant improvements in bone mineral density after just 8 months of training twice a week. In addition to gains in bone health, participants saw a 30% increase in leg strength, a 40% improvement in lower back strength, reduced fall risk, and notable improvements in quality of life.
ONERO is about more than building stronger bones, it's about building a stronger, more resilient body in a community of like-minded individuals. We look forward to lifting with you!

We screen every individual with at least two 1:1 sessions to make sure you’re safe for this program. We have individuals with T-Scores as low as -4.5 safely getting stronger in our ONERO program. Furthermore, it’s not uncommon that individuals may require modifications to the program to suit your specific needs. During our initial 1:1 sessions, we go through the programming to make sure it’s not only safe, but individualized to your needs. Lastly, each class has an 8-person cap to ensure proper supervision during lifting.

Absolutely. We have clients with knee and hip replacements, arthritis, spinal fusions, knee pain, you name it.
We are Doctors of Physical Therapy first and foremost and ONERO coaches second. Our entire training helps us meet you where you are at, modify movements when necessary, and, most importantly, keep you moving forward in a way individualized to you so that you can get stronger and reach your goals. -
Medication is a discussion to have with your medical provider. We have clients in ONERO on medication and not on medication. We view ONERO as a phenomenal supplementary way to improve bone density alongside medication when appropriate, as well as a way for those who are not appropriate for medical intervention to improve their bone and muscular health through movement.

We lift weights! We celebrate each other, we support each other, and we grow healthier as a community together.
People feel improvements in their mood, energy levels and strength in as early as 4-6 weeks. For changes in bone, we recommend waiting a minimum of 8 months before having a repeat DEXA scan. -
Our clientele is >90% female. However, Osteoporosis effects ¼ men and is not exclusive to women. We invite and welcome everyone to join our classes not only for bone health but for improving their muscle and metabolic health, decreasing their falls risk, and improving their quality of life.

Let’s talk! We recommend considering the following:
Coach experience: ONERO is designed to be led by Doctors of Physical Therapy. Physical Therapy education is tailored and designed to meet individuals where they are and modify appropriately to optimize your ability to reach your goals.
Space: Space and equipment matters. Our ONERO program boasts specialty barbells to help lifters of all abilities participate, a turf field where we practice our balance exercises, 6 squat racks to accomodate lifters of different abilities and heights, and a beautiful, newly renovated 2,500 square foot space specifically built for our ONERO program. -
We are in the lovely Hampden neighborhood on Clipper Mill Road.
Street parking (free) is ample and directly across the street.

Bone is a living, reactive tissue just like muscle is. When you lift weights, your bones respond by getting denser, just like how your muscles respond by getting stronger.
If you stop lifting weights, your bone stop responding/remodeling stronger.
Do you need to be with us forever? No. Do we hope you stay with us for the coaching and community? Absolutely. Regardless, we hope all our clients continue to lift weights forever to help improve their health on a consistent basis.
